Wellington ICT - Who We Are PDF Print E-mail

Wellington ICT (WICT) is the brand name for the Wellington Region 2020 Communications Trust. WICT is a not-for-profit Trust set up to help communities and community organisations gain an entry into the e-World.

We seek to engage, equip and empower community and voluntary groups by providing access to ICT, capability building and upskilling programmes

Brief History

The Wellington Region 2020 Communications Trust (Wellington ICT) was set up in 2002 after its predecessor - the 2020 Communications Trust - elected to focus on national projects and programmes. Wellington ICT's primary focus is Community ICT programmes and projects which will be beneficial to community groups and organisations in the Wellington region.

Trust Work

Wellington ICT (WICT) carries out Community ICT projects that meet the needs of specific communities of interest. A 'community of interest' for WICT is any group or oganisation based in the Wellington region which can demonstrate a real need.

Our successful record depends on organisations:
  • Working closely with us from the start.
  • Helping us define the need in detail.
  • Helping us secure the necessary funding.
  • Involving themselves in the critical project implementation stage.
  • Getting one or two community volunteersto to learn and look after the system.
  • Taking ownership of the system so that WICT can move on to other projects.

See the attached summary for an overview of Wellington ICT and its Community ICT work.
