City housing tenants troubleshoot PC desktops PDF Print E-mail
Wellington city housing tenants are able to assemble and troubleshoot basic desktop computers thanks to the eRider training of Wellington ICT.img_5744.jpg

In May, two full day intensive workshops were organised to teach budding computer technicians how to troubleshoot hardware components and software applications.

“We want to upskill tenants on how to fix their own computers as well as equip them to help others in the housing community,” says Joel, Wellington ICT director. “If tenants know how to troubleshoot computers, then they do not need to pay technicians to have their PCs fixed.

“Ive learned a lot from this course and now I can help my neighbours with their computer problems,” says Thomas from Newtown flats. “I enjoyed the hands-on activities and hopefully I can land a part-time job with the skills I’ve learned, says Howie from Johnsonville city housing flats.img_5753.jpg

A total of 20 tenants from various housing complexes in Wellington attended the workshop. “We will continue to conduct ICT training courses for city housing tenants all throughout the year to increase their knowledge and hopefully these will increase their productivity and help them find good jobs,” says Joel.

The eRider training is a joint initiative between the Wellington City Council and the Department of Internal Affairs managed by Wellington ICT, a not-for-profit organisation that aims to bridge the digital divide in Wellington.
